My Blog/Food Philosophy

As this blog has evolved, I've started to realize that it's a bit different than the typical food blog, so I think I would like to explain what my purpose here is a little bit. First of all, you've probably noticed that I don't post pictures. I have nothing against posting food pictures, but I don't think I would post as often as I do if I decided to start posting pictures. I would worry too much about getting the perfect picture of a recipe, and having a picture for every recipe, and it would probably get to the point where posts would just stop happening. I know myself well enough to know how that would go. That being said, if you ever really want to see what something is supposed to look like, just leave a comment on the recipe and I'll see what I can do. I do have a bunch of food pictures on my phone.

The second thing is the type of recipes that I post. My main goals are to post things that are reasonably healthy (the occasional recipe for cookies that are basically just baked Nutella notwithstanding) and that  are simple enough that people will actually make them. I post things that I cook in real life, not things that are really fancy and would look cute on your pinterest page (if there were pictures, that is) but that you would probably never make in real life because because of the time/difficulty/expensive and weird ingredients involved. My recipes are flexible and easy - quantities are usually approximate and there are sometimes alternative versions for people with additional food restrictions and things you can leave out if you don't like them. My goal here is to share easy and realistic recipes with people who are new to eating gluten-free or who are cooking gluten-free food for others or even people who are not gluten-free but who are just busy and looking for easy, healthy things to make. I do have recipes for fancy stuff and gluten-free versions of all kinds of sugary treats, but that's not the main focus of my blog. There's nothing wrong with eating that stuff once in a while, but I'm trying not to perpetuate the myth that just because something doesn't have gluten in it, you can eat all you want of it without any health consequences. Nutella cookies are fine occasionally, but most of the time, if you want dessert, I think you should eat some fruit. A lot of us (myself included) go through a phase where we are so relieved to have had someone finally figure out that we have celiac disease that we kind of neglect the other important aspects of health and nutrition for a while. So my focus is on things that are easy and quick to make and that are naturally gluten-free (and that therefore could appeal to anyone, not just those of us who haven't eaten real bread in so long that we no longer remember what it tastes like!). That being said, if there's some kind of treat you've been dying to have and you just can't find a gluten-free recipe for it, leave me a comment requesting it! I have recipes for almost anything you can imagine and I am happy to take requests.
